Doris "Arlene" Spedowski's Obituary
Big Rapids Doris Arlene Spedowski, 74, of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Altercare of Big Rapids. Arlene was born July 25, 1933, in Big Rapids, the daughter of Albert and Doris (Allison) Allers, and lived here her entire life. For many years, she worked for Wolverine World Wide. Arlene then worked at Altercare Nursing Center, and made many friends there. She also spent many hours helping her Senior Citizen friends with housecleaning, hairdressing, or whatever else was needed. She was a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Big Rapids Eagles #2535. Arlene also loved to dance, and her love for all will be treasured forever. Surviving are 2 sons, Bob (Linda) Spedoski of Big Rapids, Brian (Kathy Byrnes) Spedowski of Rodney; 1 daughter, Joni (Todd VerSluis) VanTassel of Howard City; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; son-in-law Dave Bentley of Muskegon; 4 sisters, Virginia (Gene) Polhamas of Paris, Maxine Smith of Muskegon, Shirley (Jess) Norton of Howard City, Bonnie (Jerry) Johnson of Muskegon; 6 brothers, Albert Allers, Jr. of Paris, Raymond (Leola) Allers of Big Rapids, Frank (DeAnna) Allers of Rodney, Kenny (Geri) Allers of Hersey, Dale (Kathy) Allers of Cedar Springs, Gordy (JoAnn) Allers of Big Rapids; sister-in-law Florence (Bill) Pemberton of Big Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by a daughter Toni Bentley, and a brother Virgil Allers. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 4, 2008, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with David Westover officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Plains Cemetery. Memorial contributions for McCARES (Mecosta County Animal Resource Education Society), the Eagles #2535 Ladies Auxiliary, or a charity of choice may be left at the funeral home, where Arlenes family will greet friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and prior to services on Friday.
