Dorothy Irene Benson's Obituary
Cadillac-Dorothy Irene Benson, 93 , of Cadillac, formerly of Big Rapids, was called home by her Lord on Friday, December 2, 2011. She was born on February 18, 1918 in Big Rapids, the daughter of Peter and Emma (Widlitski) Madsen. Dorothy is survived by two sons, Jack (Linda) Benson of Commerce Township, Michigan; Jerry (Mary) Benson of Cadillac, four grandchildren; Mark Benson, Laura Kitzman, Sarah Benson, Anne (Brian) Koschmider plus three great grandchildren, Daniel Kitzman, Kellan and Abrielle Koschmider. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Otto who passed away in 2002. Dorothy grew up in Big Rapids, graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1936, then trained to be a cosmetologist. She and Otto lived most of their married life on a farm on Woodward Avenue. She was an active lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Rapids. Dorothy lived for the past 7 ½ years at Green Acres Assisted Living in Cadillac. Her hobbies included flowers, gardening and cooking. She is remembered as a kind, gentle woman with a strong Christian faith and a genuine concern for others. Funeral services for Dorothy will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Rapids with Pastor John Bookshaw officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 1-5p.m. at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Interment will be at Highland View Cemetery.
