Dorothy "Dottie" Irene Volkers' Obituary
Lakeview-Dorothy "Dottie" Irene Volkers, age 99, of Stanton passed away at MyMichigan Medical Center Alma on Monday, May 20, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born in Gowen on April 6, 1925, the daughter of Lyle J. and Almeda L. (Albertson) Brigham. Dottie was raised in the Stanton area where she attended school, graduating with the Class of 1942. She furthered her education at County Normal and taught school in Turk Lake for one year. Dottie spent several years in California before moving back to Michigan, settling in Grand Rapids. She married Richard Volkers in 1975. During that time, she was employed as a waitress at various local restaurants, worked at Rowe International (the juke box factory) for 20 years and was the owner of a Tanning Salon, before retiring and moving to Six Lakes. Dottie was very independent and never shy when letting you know what was on her mind. She was a social butterfly who enjoyed baking, and spending time with family and friends. Dottie made an impact on everyone she met with her strong personality and loving heart. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.Dottie is survived by her son, John (Megan) Betts of Lakeview; sister, Francis Edwards of Stanton; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband Richard in 2005; parents, Lyle and Almeda; and brother, Donald "Buck" (Betty) Brigham.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview with Pastor Stephen Brigham officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Stanton.
