Dorothy V. Olson's Obituary
Big Rapids - Dorothy V. Olson, 88, of Big Rapids, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on June 7, 2016. She was born October 30, 1927 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Raymond and Georgia (DePew) Penland, and graduated from Hersey High School. On April 1, 1950, Dorothy married Samuel l. Olson, and they lived in Barton Township for most of their lives. Dorothy was a member of Big Rapids Assembly of God Church. Dorothy's family wishes to express a special thank you to the entire Altercare staff for the special care that they provided for her. Sam preceded Dorothy in death in 2005. Surviving are her daughter, Patti Olson of Big Rapids; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Olson of Big Rapids; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Jordan) Counselor of Kentucky, and Juliet (Aaron) Daugherty of Big Rapids; four sisters-in-law, Edna Olson, Violet DePew, Dorothy Muse, and Maxine (Al) Eisenhauer; several nieces and nephews; and a special cousin Alice Grosbeck. Dorothy was also preceded in death by one son, James S. Olson; her step-brother, Jack Blanchard; step-sisters Lucille Edgerly and Rosalie LaGrone; and in-laws Roy (Irene) Olson, Vernon Olson, Herman Olson, Hilma (Philip) Hatchew, Robert DePew, Max Edgerly, Marilyn Blanchard and Gerald Muse. Family graveside services with committal will be in the Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions in Dorothy's name may be made for the Salvation Army, with envelopes available at the Mohnke Funeral Home, where arrangements are entrusted.
