Dorothy L. "Dot" Seymour's Obituary
Dorothy L. "Dot" Seymour, age 90, passed away at the home of her daughter in Edmore on Saturday, October 24, 2015.
She was known by family and friends as Dot. She was born on September 8, 1925, to Bernard and Nona Silver Smith. She grew up in Coral and graduated from Howard City High School.
During a 4-H meeting, Dot met the love of her life Wayne Seymour and together they were married 57 years before his passing in 2003. She raised five children, was an active 4-H leader for over 30 years, weighed potatoes for Ore Ida Foods in Edmore, a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was well known for her baking (especially her chocolate chip cookies), and was a wonderful seamstress. There wasn't anything she couldn't sew and was always willing to help fix others sewing mishaps. She loved feeding and watching the birds.
Dot cared for children and enjoyed watching the little ones at play at Christa's day care, they all loved grandma Dot.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Wayne; sons Steven and David; grandson Kevin; as well as three brothers Dick, Roger, and Jim Smith.
She is survived by her three daughters Linda Sagendorf, Christa Cook, and Luanne (Bernie) Coyner of Edmore; daughter-in-law Vicki Seymour of Sidney; grandchildren Laura (Jarot) Karcher of Blanchard, Maggie Hawkins of Sand Lake, Doug (Natasha) Seymour of Sheridan, Julie Seymour of Ypsilanti, Mark (Tammy) Coyner of Richmond, IN, and Michelle (Ron) Miller of Indianapolis, IN; great-grandchildren Maddie and Alyvia Karcher, Paige and Riley Hawkins; great-grandchildren Jim Coyner of Richmond, IN and Grace Moore of Indianapolis, IN; and great-great-grandchildren Kendall, Sophia, and Maddox Coyner; one step-grandson Danny Cook. Dot is also survived by one brother Lawrence Smith of Coloma; and 2 sister-in-laws of California; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Arrangements for Dot will be on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Edmore, Michigan with Pastor George Showers officiating. Visitation for Dot will be on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the funeral home from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday one hour before the service. Graveside services will be in McBride Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Alzheimer's of Michigan or the Kevin Seymour Scholarship at The Central Montcalm Community Foundation (PO Box 128, Stanton, MI 48888).
