Douglas Michael Delaney's Obituary
Douglas Michael (Doug) Delaney of Coral, MI passed away peacefully Sunday May 24th in Bradenton, FL. Born in Lansing, MI to a family of 12 Doug live a life dedicated to family, faith, hard work, and a lot of laughter. He was a proud graduate of Michigan State University, and later got his Master’s Degree from Western Michigan University. He dedicated his career to the Catholic Church. Doug began his career with the Michigan Catholic Conference where he served as a Public Affairs Associate. He went on to serve as the Executive Director of the Colorado Catholic Conference and as the Executive Director of the Catholic Conference of Illinois. Finishing his career as the executive assistant to the Bishop of the Diocese of Joliet in Illinois until he retired. He was very impactful in the politics of the Catholic Church and always supported his local parish. Doug was a gregarious outgoing person who made friends quickly and kept them for life. He loved the outdoors, especially being on the water, fishing, boating and spending time in his garden. He loved spending time with family and friends at the cottage on Bass Lake and later Cowden Lake. He was an avid sports fan and could always be seen and heard cheering for his favorite teams. He traveled all over the country to support his beloved MSU Spartans. Doug was never afraid of an adventure or taking on a new challenge. Most of all, Doug loved to be with his family. He met his beloved wife Linda of 48 years in Lansing and loved traveling with her, especially wintering in Florida in his later years. He was the proud father of four children. He always supported them unconditionally with everything from cheering them on at their sports events to helping make home improvements. He was a very proud grandpa "Papa" of seven grandchildren whom he loved spending time with, cheering them on at sports events, fishing with them, and supporting their hobbies. His brothers were his closest friends, and he had a great relationship with his many nieces and nephews. Those who knew Doug will remember his sense of humor, willingness to lend a helping hand, and the support he gave to the people around him. He will forever be missed. Doug is survived by his wife Linda Delaney; Daughter, Sarah (Tony) Gill, Son, Brian (Lisa) Delaney, Daughter, Lisa (Matt) Brady, Grandchildren, Ariana, Hannah, Silas and Ellie Brady, AJ, Isaac and Luke Gill. Many nieces, nephews and loving friends. Siblings Denny (Patty) Delaney, and Susie Price; many nieces, nephews, and loving friends. He was preceded in death by his son Joseph Delaney, parents, Earl and Charlotte Delaney; his brothers and sisters in law, Fr. Lawrence Delaney, Charles (Harriet) Delaney, Donald (Margret) Delaney; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances Schnepp, Cheryl (Mac) Williams, Phyllis (Thomas) Rodebaugh, Carl Price, and Mary Ellen Delaney; as well as his niece, Leah Rodebaugh Visitation will be held on Friday July 10th from 6 to 9 PM at Janowicz Family Funeral Home -9977 W Howard City-Edmore Rd, Lakeview, MI 48850 Mass will be celebrated Saturday July 11th at St. Francis de Sales 829 Richardson, Lakeview, MI 48850 Luncheon following at Janowicz Family Funeral Home – Burial to follow at Coral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Catholic charities.
