Douglas "Doug" Lawrence Bradford's Obituary
Lakeview- Douglas "Doug" Lawrence Bradford, age 84, of Morley passed away at Royal View Retirement Community in Mecosta, on Wednesday, April 29, 2020. He was born on July 15, 1935 in Dickson, TN, the son of John and Mary (Dickson) Bradford. Doug was raised in Dickson until he was 12 years old, his family then moved to Ypsilanti, MI to work in the airplane factories for the war effort. At age 17, he joined the United States Air Force, and served his country honorably for 20 years. He worked as an air policeman and as a heavy equipment operator in pavement maintenance. During this time Doug earned an Associate's Degree in Optics while stationed in California. After leaving the Air Force he went to work for the Veteran's Administration in their housekeeping department until his retirement in 1996. He was extremely proud of his military service.
Doug met Deanna L. Green in Ypsilanti and they were married in 1990 in Toledo, OH, which led to 30 years filled with much love and laughter. He enjoyed reading, flying kites, shooting off rockets, flying radio-controlled planes, bowling, fishing from the pontoon and traveling. They spent 15 winters in Texas and went on 4 cruises. Doug loved life and spending time with his family.
Doug is survived by his wife, Deanna of Morley; his son, Barry Bradford of Brockton, MA; his stepchildren, Bud VanSickle of South Lyon, Don (Cheryl) Vansickle of Dexter, Julie (Mark) Torsch of Howell, Ann (Fred) Jones of Commerce, and William (Tina) VanSickle of Morley; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Sara Hoskins of Ypsilanti, Margie Honeycut of Westland and Betty Lilly of Roanoke, VA; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Bradford.
A celebration of Doug's life will be scheduled for a later date.
