Doyle C. Brown's Obituary
Doyle Brown, age 91, of Sebring Florida, formerly Big Rapids, passed away February 23, 2013 at his home from natural causes. Doyle was born in Mecosta, Michigan on November 14, 1921 to Ford and Irma Brown. He graduated from high school in Mecosta in 1939 and set forth as an apprentice to learn the barber trade. He served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War Two. After the end of the war, Doyle set up a partnership with his father in Brown's Barber shop below what is now the Fifth Third Bank in downtown Big Rapids. He later struck out on his own, opening Brown's Barber Shop on South Michigan Avenue. Doyle proudly worked at his shop for over thirty years with his nephew, Mike Brown. Doyle also worked as a real estate agent for many years and was an original owner of Big Rapids Reality. On February 8, 1953, Doyle married Esther Modrow. She preceded him death on September 4, 2012. They had a wonderful life together, lovingly raised a family and were very active in their community. Doyle was a member of the Shriner's organization and a long time member of the Elks Club. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed not only the game but his many friendships that were fostered from golfing over the years, both in Big Rapids and in his retirement in Sebring, Florida. Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Glenn and Harris Brown and two sisters, Marjorie Snyder and Marilyn Spear. He is survived by two sons, Bryan of Thornton, Colorado and Max of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by two grandsons, David and Kaleb Brown and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at the Mohnke Funeral Home at 1:00p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 with Rev. John Bookshaw officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Saturday. Interment will be at Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
