Edgar E. Welch's Obituary
Big Rapids - Edgar E. Welch, age 76 of Winterhaven, FL, formerly of Evart went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. He was born June 26, 1934 in Evart, Michigan, the son of Howard and Rosa (Sheldon) Welch, the youngest of nine children. Ed served in the United States Air Force. He was an honored Vietnam War Veteran. After his retirement from the military, Ed was employed at Ferris State University in food service management for 22 years, retiring in 1993 to care for his wife, Carmen, who preceded him in death. On May 10, 1997 Ed married Lois Smith who survives him. Also surviving are his children Missi Welch of Baldwin, Dawn (Ken) Shoemaker of Chase and Ron (Michelle) Welch of Big Rapids and four step-daughters, Rhonda (Les) Saunders of Clarkston, Carla (Dave) Ikeler of Sterling Heights, Tracy (Dale) Schoner of Paris, and Dawn DeGeorge of Reed City, 23 grand children, four brothers, Howard (Doris) Welch of Reed City, Clarence Welch of Evart, George Welch of Vassar, Donald (Geraldine) Welch of Leroy and several nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his former wife Wanda, and their son Charles Ervin, two sisters Ida Royale and Etta Attwood and two brothers, Orville Pelch and Lawrence Welch. In the past, Ed thoroughly enjoyed fishing and hunting. He liked to sing and yodel, and was especially fond of country and bluegrass gospel music. He was a founding member of Charity Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11:00am, Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Robert King officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Pine Plains Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
