Edith Mae Kohl's Obituary
Edith Mae (Sellers) Kohl, age 100 ½, of Lakeview, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 12. Edith passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
She was born June 11, 1921, in Broomfield Township, to Mervin and Hazel Sellers. Edith graduated from Edmore High School in 1940. During her time there she played basketball and was a member of the Glee Club and on Senior Skip Day, Edith and her friends went to Alma to see the premier of Gone with the Wind, in 1939. After high school she worked at the Edmore Bag Factory producing items for World War II. Later she worked 10 years for Federal Mogul. Edith married Ralph Kohl in August 21, 1943. They lived and worked together on a dairy and cash crop farm for 58 years.
She was a lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Gravel Ridge Ladies Aid and Cooperative Extension Club. Edith especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and the Tigers. Edith loved baking, cooking, canning and freezing vegetables from her garden. She was also a caretaker for her ailing in-laws and sister-in-law.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, in 2002, son Don, sisters Reva Flint, Nora Wilson, Ardeth Beardslee, brothers Elton and Gene Sellers. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Vicki and Ken Rader of Lakeview, daughter-in-law Charlene Kohl of Lakeview, grandchildren, Chris (Jessica) Rader, Mindy Rader, Rachel Kohl (Jim Harsch), Ryan (Jillian) Kohl, 5 great grandchildren. Also surviving are sister-in-law's Nancy Sellers and Sarah Sellers, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Brigham Funeral Home in Lakeview on Wednesday, December 15, from 5-8 pm. The funeral will be held on Thursday, December 16, at 11:00 am at Bethel Lutheran Church Howard City.
The family would like to especially thank the Lakeview Terrace staff for their compassionate care during Edith's seven years as a resident. She said The Terrace was her home and enjoyed living there.
