Edna May's Obituary
Edna (Pierce) May passed away Friday February 8, 2013. She was born on January 24, 1919 in Detroit, the daughter of William and Mary (Szwarc) Pierce. She attended Detroit Northeastern High School. While her husband was in military service after World War II she taught second grade at Our Lady Help of Christian Schools, following that she worked as a salesperson at Sears and Roebuck, then was a secretary for State Farm Insurance all in Detroit. In retirement Edna helped seniors with filing their income tax. She enjoyed volunteering to read with children at Stanwood Elementary and knitting caps for newborns at Mecosta County Medical Center, genealogy and the Detroit Tigers. Edna is survived by two daughters, Marian (Jim) Simon of Fairhaven, MI, Donna (Aaron) Kimball of Fort Wayne, Indiana, two sons, Gary (Pat) May of Yuma, Arizona, Joe (Shelly) May of Big Rapids, 11 grand children, Kevin (Carol) Simon, James Simon, John (Laura) Simon, Tammy Dittman, Ann Fleming, Rob (Sheila) Fleming, Ben Kimball, Emily Kimball, Geoff (Gretchen)May, Bethany (Gary) Priest, Chelsea May, and a special nephew Bill (Gwen) Nelson, plus 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leonard May, one sister and her husband and one brother and his wife. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Friday February 15, 2013 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Big Rapids with Father Lam T Le celebrant. Edna's family will greet friends at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Morley Stanwood High School Quiz Bowl team. Edna will be buried next to her husband at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
