Edward O. Johansen's Obituary
Big Rapids Edward O. Johansen, 70, Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2008, at Mecosta County Medical Center. He was born March 24, 1937, in Martiny Township, the son of Carl and Nina (Martiny) Johansen, and graduated from Barryton High School in 1955. For 23 years, Ed worked for Wolverine World Wide. During that time, in the early 1960s, he served in the United States Army. Following his discharge, he returned to Big Rapids, and worked for over 20 years at Ferris State University until retiring in 2002. Ed loved to fish, and enjoyed bowling and gardening. His first wife, Margaret (Weipert) and an infant son preceded him in death in 1969. On October 14, 1972, he married Betty (Rolston), who survives. Also surviving are 1 son Larry (Janet) of Big Rapids; 1 daughter, Kendra (Ed) Battle of Sparta; 7 grandchildren, Bronwyn, Brice, Aidan, Eleri, and Evan Johansen, and Edward, Jr. and Trevor Battle; brothers and sisters, Norm (Doris) Johansen of Jonesville, Ida Mae (Jim) Maneke of Big Rapids, Carl, Jr. Sonny (Betty) Johansen of Rodney, Arlene (Herb) Wilson of Big Rapids, Glen Johansen of Rodney, Gerald (Pat) Johansen of Six Lakes, Charles (Judy) Johansen of Rodney, Josephine Ottobre of Big Rapids, Ruth Ann (Don) McCarthy of Big Rapids, Floyd (Mary) Johansen of Big Rapids, Barbara (Glen) Dalton of Rock Spring, WY; sister-in-law Adele Johansen; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Ed was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Melissa (nee Martin) Johansen, and 2 brothers, Robert and Raymond Johansen. ? ?Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 31, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with David Westover officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for the American Heart Association may be left in care of the funeral home, where Eds family will greet friends after 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
