Edward James Phillion's Obituary
Big Rapids - Edward James Phillion, 60, of Big Rapids, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017, at his residence following a courageous six-year battle with A.L.S. He was born July 7, 1956, in Iron Mountain, the son of Vernon and Lorraine (Santi) Phillion, and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1975. After graduation, Ed served his country in the United States Marine Corp for two years. Following his discharge in 1978, he attended Ferris State University, and earned his BS in Business. Ed then pursued his career in radiology, working at various medical facilities throughout the area, but remained a Big Rapids resident. A "Warrior of the Woodlands", Ed loved the outdoors. He was a very active member of his church, Christian Life Ministries in Big Rapids. Ed was also devoted to his family, and loved being Dad and Grandpa. In 1979, he married Sherrill A. (nee Milan), who survives. Also surviving are 3 children, Dominick (Hillary) of Pittsburgh, PA, Elizabeth (Matthew) Hohne of Big Rapids, and Joseph of Grand Rapids; his granddaughter Violet; 2 sisters, Karen (Chuck) Tolen of Niagara, WI, Lisa Salli of Iron Mountain; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Kathy Ayers. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 9, 2017, at Christian Life Ministries, 428 West Avenue in Big Rapids, with Rev. Kevin Yeager officiating. Military honors are being provided by the Big Rapids American Legion Post #98. Ed's family will greet friends at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions in his name may be made for his church.
