Edward Joseph "Tex" Powley's Obituary
Edward Joseph “Tex” Powley, 73, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
Ed was born April 1, 1953, in Laurel, Maryland, the son of Donald and Maxine (McGuire) Powley, and moved to Flint as a child. He spent many years working on the assembly line for General Motors before retiring and moving to Big Rapids 20 years ago.
Known to family and friends as “Tex,” Edward was a proud member of the Big Rapids AMVETS Post 1941. He enjoyed the friendships he made through the organization and treasured the time spent with his family. His greatest joy in life was his beloved granddaughter, Ella, who lovingly knew him as “Pop Pop.” The bond they shared brought him immense happiness.
Ed is survived by his children, Joseph Edward Powley and Olivia Rose Powley; his cherished granddaughter, Ella Powley; his brothers, Tom (Maria) and Don (Betty) Powley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Terry, and his sister, Diane.
A memorial service celebrating Ed’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Mark Gilson officiating. His family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Ed’s remains will be buried in the Hungerford Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s memory to St. Peter’s Lutheran School.
