Edward John Ziemba's Obituary
Edward J. Ziemba, affectionately known as “EZ,” passed away unexpectedly at his home in Canadian Lakes on August 3, 2025, with his beloved wife by his side. He was 76 years old.
Born on March 30, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, Ed was the son of the late John and Lottie (Wojnar) Ziemba. He was raised in southwest Detroit and went on to serve his community with pride and integrity as a Detroit Police Officer, retiring in 2000. Shortly after retirement, he and his wife, Paulette, moved to Canadian Lakes to enjoy the slower pace of life and the beauty of the area.
Ed was known for his easygoing nature, big heart, and wonderful sense of humor. He had a talent for storytelling, often entertaining friends and family with vivid and colorful tales from his years on the force. Whether he was sharing a funny pun on Facebook, reminiscing about old times, or cooking up his famous pierogies, Ed brought warmth and laughter to those around him.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling with friends in Remus, cooking, and spending quality time with those he loved most. His nickname, “EZ,” fit him perfectly—he had a calming presence and a knack for making everyone feel welcome.
Ed married the love of his life, Paulette, on September 20, 1968. Together, they built a life full of love and raised two children, Brian and Kelly. His daughter Kelly sadly passed away on June 2, 2006, a loss he carried deeply.
Left to cherish Ed’s memory are his wife of nearly 57 years, Paulette; his son, Brian Ziemba; his son-in-law, Frank Adams; and his beloved grandchildren, Chloe Adams, Kayce Ziemba, and Zachary Ziemba. He is also remembered fondly by many close friends in Canadian Lakes and his former brothers and sisters of the Detroit Police Department.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service to honor Ed’s life will be held at a later date.
