Eleanor Marie Riojas' Obituary
Lakeview-Eleanor Marie Riojas, age 94, of Lakeview peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Newaygo County Compassion Home in Fremont. She was born in Greenville on January 6, 1930, to Evelyn and Marie (Greenhoe) Lavery, and was raised in the Stanton area where she attended Stanton High School. Eleanor married the love of her life, Jesse R. Riojas on February 5, 1950, at the United Church of Christ in Lakeview. Throughout the years she was employed as a waitress by many restaurants in Montcalm County, a cashier at Kluge's Market and as an inspector for HI-Q in Lakeview. She also provided day care for many local families. Eleanor was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who enjoyed reading, art, gardening, and cooking. She was active in the community, helping raise funds for Kelsey Memorial Hospital's addition in the 1960's, and as a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Eleanor will be remembered as woman with a kind and generous spirit who loved her Lord, her family, and the Lakeview Community very much. Eleanor is survived by 6 grandchildren, Jerry Riojas II (Jennifer), Marcia Riojas, Jesse Riojas, Lucas Riojas, Brittany Jones, Brandon Jones; 7 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Renee Riojas; son-in-law, Lewis Jones; nieces and nephews, Audrey (Rod) Shattuck, Deborah (Roger) Hinton, Zane (Deana) Grover, Jenie (Richard) VanOorldt, Linda (Don) Williamson, Peggy (Dan) Shuyler, Liz (Bruce); numerous extended family; and her church family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jesse in 1980; son, Jerry Riojas in 2016; daughter, Sarita Jones and granddaughter, Sara Jones in 2007; parents, Evelyn and Marie; sisters, Wanda Grover and Evelyn Pennock. A celebration of Eleanor's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview, with Deacon Rick Dubridge officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral chapel.
