Elma "Midge" Elaine LaShell's Obituary
Lakeview - Elma "Midge" LaShell, age 90, of Mecosta, passed away Saturday July 6, 2019 at Masonic Pathways in Alma, MI. She was born on July 25, 1928 in Albion, MI, the daughter of Byron and Evelyn (Parks) Bilsborrow.
Midge was raised in the Albion area and graduated from Albion High School when she was 17 years old. On September 16, 1947, Midge married Keith Duane LaShell in Grand Rapids, MI. They spent 60 years together before Keith passed on April 10, 2010.
Midge was a lifetime member of the Eastern Stars and the Hough Pontius VFW Post lady's Aux and was a member of the Sylvester Community Church. She enjoyed baking esp. cookies and pecan pies, gardening, and flowers. Midge and Keith had fun competing with huge dueling gardens in Texas. They had his and her gardens complete with signs and electric fencing to keep critters out. Midge would water her garden but not his.
Midge is survived in death by her children: Linda (William) Smith of Mecosta, Lynette Marshall of Hendersonville, TN, and daughter-in-law Colleen LaShell of Fennville; eight grandchildren: Kelley, Karri, Adam, Abbey, Amanda, Brittney, Matthew, and Lara, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and 1 on the way; sister Ruth Sheldon of Mecosta; and countless nieces, nephews, church family, and friends.
Midge was preceded in death by her husband Keith LaShell, son Allen LaShell, and two siblings George Bilsborrow and Thelma Pike.
A funeral service for Midge will be on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with family accepting friends for visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. at Sylvester Community Church with Pastors Simon Endacott and Arron Crabb officiating. Interment in Oakfield Cemetery will follow a luncheon at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Sylvester Community Church.
