Elmer John DeMott's Obituary
Edmore-Elmer John DeMott, age 92, of Six Lakes quietly passed away on August 4, 2021, at Schnepp Senior Care and Rehab Center in St. Louis. He was born in Lakeview on January 18, 1929 and raised in Altona where he attended school. Elmer spent time working hard to learn the trade of furniture making before becoming employed as a craftsman by John Widdicomb Company in Grand Rapids for many years. He married Wava White in 1952 and loved her deeply until and after her death in 2005. He and Wava were never blessed with children, although they were active in the lives of their nieces and nephews. A few years after Wava's passing he met Barb Davis, who became his close companion. Her family welcomed him into their lives fulfilling his desire to have children.
He was the last of his generation, being preceded in death by his wife, Wava (White); parents, Jim and Ima DeMott; brother, Ernie; sister, Hazel Huisman.
Elmer is survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth DeRosha; nephews, Mike DeMott, Mike Phelps, Tom Huisman, Richard Horton, Keith White; nieces, Gracia Class, Jo Phelps, Cheryl Wilson; companion, Barb Davis; her children, Joyce Holmes, Connie Hull, Jackie Cooper, Brenda Phelps, Robert Shepler; and their families.
A memorial service for Elmer will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Edmore. Interment will be in Richland Township Cemetery.
