Ernest Dale Tetzlaff's Obituary
Big Rapids - E. Dale Tetzlaff, 86, of Big Rapids, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Mecosta County Medical Center. He was born August 27, 1925, in Big Rapids, the son of Herbert and Lottie (Wilder) Tetzlaff, and lived in the area his entire life. During World War II, Dale served with the U.S. Navy, and was a seaman on an ammunition ship during the Pearl Harbor Battle. Following his discharge, Dale returned to Big Rapids, and farmed for most of his life. He was also a home builder and excellent wood-worker, and worked for the Big Rapids Box Company for 15 years. Dale loved animals, also loved to hunt and fish, and was able to go on an expedition to Alaska. A caring man, Dale was the first to help in times of need. He was also a terrific practical joker, and loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally. Dale is loved dearly by his family, and will be greatly missed. On June 1, 1963, he married Amy Loll, who survives. Also surviving are 4 daughters, Vicki (Larry) Buffin of Big Rapids, Tracy Tetzlaff of Cedar Springs, Kelly (Shawn) Flagg of Big Rapids, and Adriana Beckwith of Big Rapids; grandchildren Tiffany (Mike) Monahan, Jennifer (Troy) Bittner, Jaedyn and Madison Flagg, Erin (Marty) Sullivan, Ben (Carolyn) Beckwith, Matt and Luke Beckwith; great-grandchildren Bethany and Mikey Monahan, Hailey and Landen Bittner, Amelia, Lauren, and Hailey Sullivan, and Noah, Jason, Riley, Grace, Leif, and Belle Beckwith; his brother Wayne of Alma; many nieces and nephews; and his Bassett hound Wilbur. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother-in-law Frances and Dean Bates. Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m., Monday, June 4, at the Grant Center United Methodist Church, with Pastor Lyle Ball officiating and Connie Shoemaker providing the eulogy. Military honors under the auspices of the American Legion Post #98 and AmVets Post #1941 will precede services. Dale's family will greet friends after 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the church.
