Esther L. Brower's Obituary
Big Rapids Esther L. Brower, 89, of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, May 13, at Altercare of Big Rapids. She was born April 13, 1919, near Stanwood at what is now Browers Park, the daughter of Henry and Caroline (Ebelt) Brower, graduated from Big Rapids High School, and has lived in the area her entire life. For 15 years, Esther worked at the offices of Drs. Greene, Campbell, & White. In 1953, she started employment with Wolverine Electric Coop, where she served as secretary and office manager until retiring in 1983. Esther was a long time member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Big Rapids. She served for many years as president and treasurer of League of Lutheran Women, and was a member of the Tabitha Ladies Aid. Esther also served as secretary-treasurer for the U.S. 131 Area Development Association for 20 years. Esther was well known for her cooking and baking for various events and individuals. She was loved very much by all, and will be missed by family and friends alike. Surviving are a niece, Carolyn (Gary) Vaughn of Traverse City; a nephew Mark (Laura) Viel of Big Rapids; grandnieces Kristen (Tim) Hennessey, Jill (Matt) Fouch, and Julia Viel; grandnephews Gregory (Karrie) Vaughn, Christian and Michael Viel; great-grandniece Madelyn Fouch; great-grandnephew Jacob Fouch, Zachary Fouch, and Brady Vaughn. Esther was preceded in death by her sisters Evelyn Viel and Velma Brower. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 16, 2008, at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Big Rapids, with Rev. John Bookshaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions for the St. Peters Piano Fund may be left at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, where Esthers family will greet friends today (Thursday) from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and at the church prior to services on Friday.
