Eugene "Gene" W Fredrickson's Obituary
Edmore-Eugene "Gene" W. Fredrickson, age 92, of Stanton passed away at his home on Sunday, December 8, 2019. Gene was born in Edmore on April 17,1927, son of Gustaf and Mae (Brasington) Fredrickson. He was pre-deceased by his wife Barbara (Bush) and is survived by, daughter Coleen Hartle, son David Fredrickson, son Eric Fredrickson, daughter-in-law Patricia (Brand), grand-daughters Faith Fredrickson, Elizabeth Fredrickson and Emily Fredrickson.
Gene was a great man and father and was devastated that he was no longer the strong, young man he once was when he could not win his battle with throat cancer. He was ready to meet his Heavenly Father and be reunited with his loved ones who have been waiting for him for so long. He will be sorely missed, but the tears we shed are for us, not him. He is in such a wonderful place now; we cannot be sad for him in his new home. Gene was an amazing father to his children. He taught them to think through every situation and consider the consequences, to apply biblical principles, and to understand the constitution in order to come to the logical conclusion for the best course of action.
Gene was incredibly humble and generous to a fault as he helped those who were just getting started in the potato business in any way he could. As an innovator, he kept his mind busy while driving tractor by doing calculus equations as he drove across the fields or developing solutions to improve the American way of life.
Everyone who knew Gene could see the evidence of His faith by the way he lived his life. Gene was generous to his family, his church, his friends, and to the community where he was elected and served for 40 years as the Supervisor of Day Township and as a Trustee of Day Township. While holding these positions, Gene regularly attended meetings with the State of Michigan where he fought to preserve our freedoms, and point out the incongruities between what State lawmakers wanted to do, and what the State of Michigan Constitution as well as the U.S. Constitution .laid out. Even after he no longer held either of these offices, Gene continued to set up the voting machines and sit on the Board of Review for Day Township, as needed.
Gene served his country during the Korean War. His patriotism and love of country permeated every aspect of his life. He led his family in calisthenics each evening and the conversation around the dinner table, as well as the bedtime stories, revolved around the Bible, national and world politics. Gene even carried a copy of the U.S. Constitution in his pocket, which he regularly brought out in political discussions during meetings, and conversations with everyone he met. Because of this, and his fierce patriotism, Gene was invited to be on the Advisory Board of his Congressman in Washington, D.C.
