Eugene "Gene" Charles Gross' Obituary
Lakeview - Eugene "Gene" Charles Gross, age 94, of Coral passed away on March 14, 2023, at Mission Point in Cedar Springs. He was born in Grand Rapids on October 28, 1928, to Isidore and Florence (Hoban) Gross. Gene was raised in Coopersville and later moved to Grand Rapids where he attended Union High School. On October 3, 1953, Gene married the love of his life, Lillian Host at the Basilica of St. Adalbert. He was employed as a truck mechanic by Roskam Baking Company in Grand Rapids for 47 years, before retiring in 1991. "Red" as he was affectionally known by his co-workers was very dedicated, making sure every delivery truck was in perfect working condition before he would leave for the day. Gene could fix anything and enjoyed helping others, building furniture, doing home improvement projects, and often designing special tools to complete a job when needed. In 1966 he and Lillian built a cottage on Cowden Lake in Coral. He loved spending time there and in 1996 they made it their full-time home. Gene was a hard working man, who had a big heart, a twinkle in his eye and a great love of life and his family.Gene is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lillian Gross of Coral; daughters, Deborah Gross of Coral, Julia (Cliff) Kozminski of Coopersville; son, Daniel Gross of Grandville; brother, Bernard (Rosemary) Gross; sister, Geraldine (Ron) Pawloski; extended Chambers and DeBoer families; many nieces and nephews; and special friends from Cowden Lake.He was preceded in death by his parents, Isidore and Florence; brothers, Jacob (Jean) Gross, Gerald Gross; sister-in-law, Ruth Vert; brother-in-law, Robert Vert.Funeral Mass for Gene will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lakeview with Father James Vanderlaan and Father William Zink officiating. The family will greet friends from 2:00-4:00 PM and from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 22 at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview and again on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church.Gene's family would like to especially thank the staff at Spectrum Health Hospice and Mission Point of Cedar Springs for their loving care.Those wishing to donate in Gene's memory are asked to consider The American Diabetes Association or The Alzheimer's Association.
