Eva Pat Murray's Obituary
Big Rapids Eva Jean Pat Murray, 88, of Big Rapids, passed away Monday, January 12, 2009, at Covenant Village of the Great Lakes in Grand Rapids. She was born August 21, 1920 in New Castle, Indiana, the daughter of Howard and Bernice (Millikan) Yergin. Mrs. Murray arrived in Big Rapids in 1950, when her husband Merrill R. Mike Murray joined Ferris State University (then Ferris Institute) as an academic Dean. Prior to living in Big Rapids, Pat resided in several locations in Indiana, New Mexico, Texas, Alabama, and Manchester, England. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Big Rapids Garden Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the United Church of Big Rapids. She was also keenly interested in decorative plants and flowers and developed a passion for antiques and collectibles at an early age. Pat married her husband Mike on March 30, 1940; he preceded her in death in May 2004. Surviving is her son, Michael and daughter-in-law Pamela of Grand Rapids; one grandson, Matthew of Novi; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 16, 2009, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Rev. Jon Fleming officiating.Spring burial will be in the Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions for the Dr. Merrill R. Murray Scholarship Endowment for the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University may be left at the funeral home, where Pats family will greet friends on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until prior to service.
