Fern (Blumberg) LaFollette's Obituary
Fern (Blumberg) LaFollette (94) passed away on Friday April the 1st, 2016. She was born September 8, 1921 and spent most of her life in the Lakeview, MI area. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1939 then graduated from Western Michigan University (Normal School) with a teaching degree. She proceeded to teach school for 39 years, with most of those years in the Lakeview school district. Although retired from teaching since the early 1980's she continued to teach all that knew her, life lessons through her actions.
Her passions in life were simple. FAITH, as a member of the Amble Methodist Church since 1934. FAMILY, as the matriarch of the LaFollette, Blumberg, and Jorgensen families. FRIENDS, including but not limited to her family, church members, neighbors, former students, former colleagues, and family members of the many people she helped care for in their time of need. TRAVEL, having spent time in China, Portugal, and Spain to name a few. CATS, her nurturing included more than people!
Fern was preceded in death by her husband Bill LaFollette; son, Richard LaFollette; mother, Anna (Alma Jorgensen) Blumberg, father, Arthur Ferdell Blumberg; and 3 brothers, Lawrence Blumberg, Arthur "Lavern" Blumberg, and James "Leroy" Blumberg.
She is survived by her grandson, Steven LaFollette (Rockford); granddaughter in-law,(Heather LaFollette); 3 great -grandchildren, (James Hawkins/Brie Hawkins, Nathan and Emma Warnock); and sister in-law/friend, Frances Blumberg (Lowell).
Funeral Service will take place Monday, April 4, 2016 at 1:00 PM from Brigham Funeral Chapel Lakeview, Michigan with Pastor Anne Riegler to officiate.. Visitation will also take place Monday, from 12:00 PM until the time of service. Graveside services will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Entrican, Michigan. A luncheon will follow the graveside service at Amble Methodist Church in Amble. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local Humane Society. Visit a person in need and tell them that Fern couldn't make it because her mission for God is completed.
