Fern Lenore Satterlee-Hamelink's Obituary
age 98, of Lakeview, passed away March 3, 2015 at Spectrum Health Kelsey Long Term Care. Fern was born at the family farm in Alpine, Kent County, on April 24, 1916; the daughter of Royal S. and Birdie Pearl Calkins West. Fern was raised in Amorita, Oklahoma and graduated from Amorita High School in 1935. Upon graduation, Fern moved to her Aunt Nora's in Hinton Twp and worked at Kluges Market as a Store Clerk.
Fern married Ernest Satterlee at her Aunt Nora's home in 1937. They celebrated 45 wonderful years together until his passing in 1982. Fern married her second husband Larry Hamelink at the Asbury Methodist Church in Lakeview in 1985. They spent 16 years together until he passed in 2001.
Fern's many hobbies included gardening, sewing, cooking and crafting, wintering in Florida. She really enjoyed being a Farmer's Wife. Fern was a member of the Windy Corners Women's Club, the Deerfield Grange, the Asbury United Methodist Church, and the New Life United Methodist Church.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Satterlee in 1982; husband Lawrence Hamelink in 2001; parents Royal and Birdie West; one great-great-grandchild Easton Sonntag; three brothers Elbridge West, John Hughes, and Melvin Hughes.
Fern will be greatly missed by one son Eugene (Irene) Satterlee of Stanton; one daughter Janet (Bob) Culey of Hinton Twp; seven grandchildren Michele (Nick) Lober, David (Trudy) Satterlee, Michael (Kim) Satterlee, Cindy (Bill) Winter, Karen (Les) Cornell, Eric (Lisa) Lucas, and Kristin (Jeff) Parsons; sixteen great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Faye Hughes of TN; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Fern's life will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview, Michigan. Family will be accepting friends one hour prior the service at 10:00 AM and on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home. A luncheon will be provided following the service at the New Life United Methodist Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to either Spectrum Health Hospice or to New Life United Methodist Church.
