Foster Roland Brummel's Obituary
Big Rapids - Foster Roland Brummel, 91, of Norwich Township, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at his home.
He was born June 19, 1930, in Holland, the son of Raymond and Elizabeth (Nykamp) Brummel. On December 7, 1946, Foster married Clarine Hassevoort, and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Ministry from the Reformed Bible Institute (now Kuyper College) in Grand Rapids.
Foster first served at Bravo C.R.C. in Fennville, and then helped to form the Maple Ave. C.R.C. in Holland. In 1963, Foster accepted the call to become pastor of the Woodville Christian Reformed Church, where he served for 30 years. In retirement, he continued to substitute for several other Christian Reformed Churches. In 2013, Foster and Clarine joined the Fellowship Christian Reformed Church in Big Rapids.
A man of great faith, Foster loved his bible studies, and especially enjoyed teaching youth groups. He was a member of the Tract League of Grand Rapids, helping to spread God's Word throughout the world. A lover of the outdoors, he was also active with the Newaygo County Soil Conservation District.
Clarine preceded Foster in death on June 16, 2020. He is survived by their children Marcia (Gerald) White of White Cloud, Sheryl (Kevin) Wernette of Remus, and David Brummel of White Cloud; daughter-in-law Barbara Brummel of Holland; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his brother Corwin (Esther) Brummel of New Mexico; his sister Donna (Marvin) LePoire of Zeeland; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by their son Wayne in 1978, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the Fellowship Christian Reformed Church, 407 Perry Avenue in Big Rapids, with Pastor Ken Krause officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodville Cemetery. Foster's family will greet friends at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids on Friday, September 17, from 4-7 p.m., and beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
