Frances A. Vandenberg's Obituary
Big Rapids - Frances A. Vandenberg, 95, of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018, at Metron of Big Rapids.
She was born October 20, 1922, in Lakeview, the daughter of Walter and Maude (Pope) Sunderlin, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1940.
In 1944, she married Frank Vellenga, who passed away in 1947 shortly after his 40th birthday. In 1950, she then married Marvin Vandenberg of Fremont, who passed away in 1953, also just after his 40th birthday. Frances and her two young daughters lived in Fremont until returning to Big Rapids in 1959, where she had lived since.
Frances is survived by her two daughters, Karen Shineldecker and Marla (Robert) Bowman, both of Big Rapids; 8 grandchildren, John, Kari, Jeremiah, Benjamin, Mark, Sarah, Robert, and Jodie; a step-son Robert Vandenberg of Fremont; a brother-in-law Robert Nelsen of Grant; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sister Helen Nelsen, and her two brothers, Olin and Joseph Sunderlin.
Her family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the wonderful and loving care provided to Frances by the staff of Metron during her 10 years of residence there.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 22, 2018, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. Frances' family will greet friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. Memorial contributions in her name may be made for the Activities Department at Metron of Big Rapids, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
