Francisca Baez's Obituary
Edmore- Francisca Baez, age 86, of Edmore passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, in Grand Rapids at Butterworth Hospital. Francisca was born in Brownsville, Texas to Alfredo and Maria (Vega) Gonzalez on October 5, 1936. She was raised in Brownsville. The Gonzalez family also traveled every summer all over the United States working on local farms. Those travels would eventually take Francisca to the central Michigan area where she was introduced to Tomas Baez. Tomas and Francisca were married in Cedar Lake, Michigan on November 10, 1961. She continued working for local farmers and Ore Ida. Tomas and Francisca had 5 children together. She was a proud homemaker who raised her children in Edmore. Francisca and Tomas were among the founding families to join St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edmore. After their son Thomas passed away, they became very active with the Cursillos in Grand Rapids. Francisca enjoyed reading and crocheting. She especially loved to sing and dance and show her hospitality by cooking for any visitors who stopped by.Francisca will be greatly missed by her children Javier Baez, Sylvia Baez, Mary Lou (Shane) Baez, and Eulalia "Lali" (Joe) Brouwer; un-biological daughter, Rosalind LaValley; grandchildren, Jillian Baez, Cassandra Bupp, Derek Brouwer, Darci Brouwer, Shari Brouwer, Chance Baez-Wright, Maeson Baez, Seth Baez, Raelynn Baez, Jordan Peterson, Anna Peterson, Katie Baldwin, Patricia LaCross, and Matthew LaCross; 9 great-grandchild; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Ramon Gonzalez; and lifelong friend, Aurora Patino.Francisca was preceded in death by her husband Tomas Baez, Sr. in 1993; son, Thomas Baez, Jr.; parents, Alfredo Gonzalez and Maria Vega; dear friend, Rita Alvarado; two brothers; and one sister.A funeral mass for Francisca will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023, at 11:00 AM in Stanton at St. Bernadette of Lourdes Catholic Church. Family will receive friends an hour before the service begins and on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Edmore from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
