Frank Allers' Obituary
Rodney - Frank E. Allers, 74, of Rodney, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at home with his three daughters by his side. He was born December 17, 1941, in Big Rapids, the son of Albert and Doris (Allison) Allers, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1960. Following his graduation, Frank joined the U.S. Navy, and served until his honorable discharge in 1964. For several years, Frank worked for Gibson Appliance in Greenville, and then began his career with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a letter carrier in Big Rapids, delivering mail throughout the city for 33 years until retiring in 1997. Frank was a longtime active member of the Big Rapids Eagles Aerie #2535, held various local and district offices, and served on numerous committees. He was appointed by the State Grand Aerie to organize the Stanwood Eagles Aerie #4360, where he became a charter member. Frank was lovingly known for many years as the "Straw Man" at the Eagles State Youth Camp near Lake. He was also a member of the Big Rapids American Legion Post #98, the AmVets Post #1941, and the Paris Trailblazers Snowmobile Club. On January 8, 1966, he married DeAnna Jane "De" (nee Luckey), who preceded him in death on November 21, 2015. Surviving are 3 daughters, Vicki Allers of Big Rapids, Terri (Jim) Walkley of Freesoil, and Jennifer Worth of Big Rapids; 8 grandchildren, Sarah, Kurt, Heather, Phillip, Katie, Ethan, Mykayla, and Hannah; 7 great-grandchildren, Michael, D anny, Shelby, Jada, Zander, Lily Mae, and Kaylee; 4 sisters, Virginia Polhamus of Big Rapids, Maxine Smith and Bonnie Johnson of Muskegon, and Shirley (Jesse Meachum) Norton of Howard City; 3 brothers, Kenny (Geri) of Hersey, Dale (Cathy) of Sparta, and Gordon (Joan) of Big Rapids; sister-in-law Leola Allers of Big Rapids; brothers-in-law James and Tim (Vicky) Luckey; and many nieces and nephews. Frank was also preceded in death by his brothers Virgil, Junior, and Raymond, his sister Arlene Spedowski, and a grandson BJ. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2016, at the Big Rapids First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rebecca Morrison officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Big Rapids American Legion Post #98. Following cremation, burial will be in the Pine Plains Cemetery. Frank's family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.
