Fred Grant Hurst's Obituary
Big Rapids Fred Grant Hurst, 90, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at the Grand Rapids Veterans Home. He was born January 2, 1920, near Reed City, the son of Fred and Anna Hurst, and graduated from Big Rapids High School. During World War II, Fred served with the U.S. Navy. Returning to Big Rapids after his honorable discharge, Fred worked as an electrician in the area. He worked for Bert Bennetts Electric, the Gambles Store, Hanchetts Manufacturing, and Wolverine Electric in Reed City. In 1962, he moved to Grand Rapids to work for Kalvinator (later White & White) until retiring. Fred was preceded in death by his first wife Irene in 1947, and his second wife Carlyn in 1989. Surviving are his son Denis of Big Rapids; 3 grandchildren, Richard and Craig Moore, and Lisa Warnicky; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter. He was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Anita Bunny Hurst in 2006. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Mike Reigler officiating. Spring burial will be in the Pine Plains Cemetery. Freds family will greet friends at the funeral home after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
