Garold Merle McGowan's Obituary
Garold M. McGowan, age 75, of Six Lakes, passed away at his home on July 19, 2026. “Gar” as he was known, was born on November 2, 1950, in Lansing, Michigan, to Howard and Zelma (Meirndorf) McGowan. He grew up in Williamston and graduated from Williamston High School. Gar proudly served in the United States Army. He was a true workaholic who spent many years dedicated to his position as a railroad track inspector. Gar was the life of the party and loved bringing people together. He especially loved celebrating the 4th of July with cornhole games and good company. He looked forward to Thursday and Friday night game nights where he shared his love of music, especially country and Elvis Presley. Gar also enjoyed driving his pontoon on the lake. In his younger years, he bowled and fished.
Gar will be deeply missed by his children, Heidi (Shaun) McGowan, and Corey (Sonia) McGowan; three grandsons, Gavin, Corey, and Caleb; his sisters, Dorrine Bach, Connie Cole, and Donna McGowan; companion and friend of many years, Linda Ekins; along with many other long-time friends.
Gar was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Zelma McGowan; his grandson, Garrett McGowan; his brother, Howard McGowan; his sisters, Roberta Hitchcock, Denelda Tanguay, and Dolores Bohneett.
A celebration of Gar's life will be held at 151 Second Lake Drive in Six Lakes on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 1:00 – 5:00 PM. Care and arrangements have been entrusted to Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Edmore.
