Garth G. Bunker's Obituary
Garth G. Bunker, 79 of Lakeview, Michigan left Earth to be with his Lord on April 10, 2023 at his home on Almy Road after succumbing to complications from cancer. He was born May 20, 1943 in Lakeview, Michigan. Garth resided on his family's centennial farm his entire life. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1961 and served his country in the Michigan National Guard for 7 years. In 1964, he married Vickie Diane Durst of Coral Michigan, and raised four children together. Garth was a farmer and carpenter as a young man. Later he worked in various capacities at Electrolux in Greenville, Michigan for 30 years. In his later years, he was a sign-language interpreter with the Central Montcalm School District working with hearing-impaired students. Garth enjoyed woodworking and restored many antique steamer trunks as gifts to students, friends, and his 11 grandsons. He also served the Cowden Lake Christian Church for many years as a valued leader, youth group leader, and Sunday school teacher. Garth positively influenced the lives of many young people in the greater Lakeview area through The Big Brother program and coaching. He is survived by: his wife Vickie Diane (Durst) Bunker, his children, Chris (Christy) Bunker of Lakeview, Lori Simon of Coral, Tonya (Steve) Simon of Belding, and Aaron (Kim) Bunker of Lakeview. He's also survived by his 11 grandsons: Eric (Tricia) Simon, Maxwell Simon, Spencer Simon, Jestin Simon, Cameron Bunker, Brennan Bunker (Keeleigh Harkness), Jayson Bunker (Cory Sadler), Ayden Bunker, Brandyn Bunker, Tyler Simon, and Joshua Simon. Siblings: Marcelynn Moore of Lakeview, Roger (Bonnie) Bunker of Gaylord, Greg (Susan) Bunker of England, Alveretta (Bob) Berg of Bruce Crossing. In laws: Bruce (Sue) Dangremond of Greenville, Dean (Carolyn) Durst of Gowen, and Ken McCreedy of Cedar Springs. As well as many nieces and nephews. Garth was preceded in death by his mother, Winona Faling Bunker, his father, Glenn & Caroline Bunker, and his sister Sondra (Bunker) McCreedy. A visitation is planned for 5pm to 8pm on Thursday, April 13, 2023 and the funeral will be at 11am on Friday, April 14, 2023 both will be held at Brigham Funeral Home in Lakeview.
