Gary C. Alber's Obituary
Stanwood - Gary C. Alber, age 68, of Stanwood, went home to be with his Heavenly Father and Savior on October 24, 2016. He was born August 16, 1948 in Big Rapids, the son of Jack and Margaret (Cornell) Alber. He graduated from Morley Stanwood High School in 1966 and went on to Ferris State and played college football. He married his high school sweetheart, Jan Anderson on July 1, 1967. In their union together, they were blessed with their children Marla (Brian) Estes and Brian (Jennifer) Alber, along with their grandchildren Garrett and Madeleine Alber. Also surviving is one sister Debbie (Carl) Youngs, plus several nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents. He left college and started working for IEBW. He spent 42 years with Newkirk Electric and developed many friendships in the trade. Gary was an avid hunter. He loved hunting on the mountains of Wyoming with family and friends throughout the years. He enjoyed having the boys come over for trap shoots, target practicing and cookouts. Gary knew where every Dairy Queen was located in Michigan from his years of driving for work. On family travels, the car would often end up at a Dairy Queen. He also enjoyed making homemade ice cream with the family with lots of maple syrup. As much as Gary loved his family and friends, he loved his personal savior more. He loved studying the word of God and applying it to his life. He would say, "I received some mail from the Lord." A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Christ's Harvest Ministries, 701 Woodward Ave., Big Rapids, Michigan. Memorial contributions in Gary's name may be made to West Michigan Teen Challenge, 440 E. Pontaluna Rd., Muskegon, MI 49444.
