Gary Lee Perkins' Obituary
Gary Perkins, age 62, of Stanton, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Carson City Hospital. Gary was born on December 14, 1956 at the old Edmore Hospital, the son of Gerald Duane and Ruth Ann (Petterson) Perkins. He was raised on the family farm in Stanton and graduated from Montabella High School Class of 1975. When Gary was 14, he attended the Wesley Woods Church Camp where he met a young lady who was going to change his life. He cried all the way home telling his mom how much he missed her. Four years later, after losing contact, Gary went to Paris, MI looking for her at the General Store and Gas station. Miss Kay Elaine Sanders said "Yes" and the two were married on Nov. 27, 1976 in Big Rapids, MI.
Gary spent his life doing what he loved best, farming. His farm was well known for dairy, agriculture and produce. He was big into cash crops. His family has had great impact all over Montcalm County. Traveling along M-46 between Six Lakes and Edmore, you will find a Perkins Stand that has been selling crops for years.
Gary loved bowling and was a member of leagues on a state and national level. He was the Bowling Association Secretary for the men's bowling league for 25 years. Gary also coached baseball and loved sports. Gary either watched the sports channel or stock market. He wanted to provide a good future for his family. He was a hard worker, wanting to make his dad proud, and would never allow someone to tell him he couldn't do something regardless of the adversities. He instilled the importance of practice in others and would take the weakest link and encourage them to do their best.
Gary will be missed by Kay Perkins of Stanton; his mom Ruth Perkins of Stanton; three sons Randy Perkins (Candy Cole), Ryan (Kittie)Perkins, and Cory Perkins (Shanna Dalrymple) all of Stanton; grandchildren Tatianna, Kaylin, Dylan, Waylon, Emily, and Meeah; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as friends and the farming community. Gary was met in heaven by his dad, Gerald Perkins, who passed in 2004.
Funeral Services for Gary will be Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Faith United Methodist Church in Edmore, MI at 11:00 AM with Rev. Connie Bongard officiating.
