Obituary
Edmore - Gene Edwin Dyer, age 87, of McBride, passed away surrounded by family, on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Isabella County Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant, MI, following a 19-year battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Gene was born on March 23, 1930, in McBride, the son of Lawrence and Mildred (Clark) Dyer. He was raised in McBride graduating from Edmore High School, class of 1947. Gene enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951, proudly serving in the Korean War as an electrical lineman. On October 3, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Edna Hansen, in Edmore. He worked his entire career, beginning at age 14, with the Dyer Company and took over the business with his brother Craig in 1975, operating aggregate processing plants, sales, and road construction, retiring in 1990.
Gene enjoyed sailing, fishing, endless yard landscaping, carpentry, model boat building, including the Titanic. He was a master mechanic, working on all types of engines, building many yard machines and the famous red kit car he loved to tool around in. Gene and Edna liked to travel and after retirement, spent many winters at their home in Ruskin, Florida. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Edmore.
Gene will be deeply missed by his wife Edna; daughters, Mary Dyer (Joe Mahaney) of Marquette, Lisa (Paul) Hein of Marquette, and Jean (Jerry) Dominick of McHenry, IL; 7 grandchildren, Katie Kauppila, Rachel Barker, Brandon Green, Samantha Johnson, Johnathen Dominick, Karole Brown, Tyler Dominick; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Craig (Pam) Dyer of Congress, AZ; sister, Pat Buckley of McBride; brother-in-law, Robert (Maxine) Hansen of Trufant; sister-in-law's, Cleo (Chris) Ruppel of St. Joseph, Margaret Peters of Mt. Pleasant, and Jackie Hansen of Whitehall; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Margaret Dyer, twin brother Bruce, sister Betty; brother-in-law's, Jim Buckley, Sam Hansen, Maynard Hansen, Bill Berns, Tom Peters, and John Hansen; sister-in-law's Lucille Hansen, and Bernice Berns.
Funeral Services to celebrate Gene's life are scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, February 2, 2018, with visitation at 10:00, at Faith United Methodist Church in Edmore, MI, with Pastor Dan Barkholz officiating. The family will also accept friends for visitation on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Edmore. A luncheon will follow at the church after the service.
