Obituary
Lakeview-George Leland Eberhard, age 86, of Lakeview, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family, on April 3, 2018. George was born on March 31, 1932 in Sturgis, Michigan, the son of David W. and Helen (Mock) Eberhard. He was raised in Sturgis and graduated from Sturgis High School Class of 1950. George continued his education at Western Michigan University and Michigan State University where he earned a degree in Social Work. On April 25, 1953 he married Alice Joyce Daniels in Lansing. George became the director of social work for the State of Michigan, retiring in 1990 after 30 years of service. He was a dedicated servant of his God Jehovah for 66 years. He was currently a member of the Howard City congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He enjoyed sports, golfing, boating and especially spending time with his family.
George will be missed by his wife of 65 years, Alice Eberhard of Lakeview; 6 children Dean (Anita) Eberhard of DeWitt, Randall (Claudia)Eberhard of St. Johns, Annette (Michael) Hornbeck of Lansing, Penny (Roger) Hueber of Belmont, NH, Teresa (Alex) Rinckey of Greenville, and Bethany (Jeffrey) Hunt of Perry, GA; 15 grandchildren, Jeremy, Brett, Jessica, DeAnna, Ashley, Connor, Cailin, Christopher, Daniel, Andrew, Aaron, Nathaniel, Alissa, Emily, Aubrey; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers David Wayne Eberhard (Katherine) of Sheridan, Ernest Eberhard of Florida; special nieces and nephews: Kimber, Michelle, Eliot and JD; and one special cousin and friend Robert Fennell.
He is preceded in death by his parents David and Helen Eberhard; step-mother, Martha Horowitz; one sister, Edna "Dolly" Rohrer, and one brother Harrison Eberhard.
The family will accept friends for visitation on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview. A memorial service will be held in the Lakeview High School Gymnasium on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 2:30 pm with Brother Michael Abbey handling the services. A Luncheon will be held in the High School Cafeteria immediately following the service.
