George Lyman Tribe's Obituary
Big Rapids - George Lyman Tribe, 80, of Green Township, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He was born July 13, 1936, at home in Grant Center, the son of Thomas S. and Virginia Ruth (Dare) Tribe, and lived in Big Rapids his entire life. For several years, Lyman worked for the Big Rapids Box Factory, and also the Hydeker-Wheatlake Co. He then began working for the Mecosta County Road Commission, retiring in 1997 after 35 years of service. Lyman loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed Canadian fishing trips and his out west hunting adventures. Lyman attended the Paris United Methodist Church, and also served in the Michigan National Guard. On July 14, 1956, he married Nora Moss, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Tom (Teresa) Tribe, Virginia Boomer, Nora (Bill) Hatchew, all of Big Rapids, Dale (Mary) Tribe of Paris, and Schar (Jamie) Holley of Big Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Ruth Smith of Rogers Heights; a sister-in-law Donna Tribe of Big Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. Lyman was preceded in death by his brother Jim, his sisters Louise Cass and Florabelle Wilcox, 2 grandchildren, Chris Boomer and Erica Hatchew, and a son-in-law Danny Boomer. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., tomorrow (Sunday), December 18, 2016 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Kim DeLong officiating. Spring burial will be in the West Cemetery in Green Township. Lyman's family will greet friends at the funeral home today (Saturday) from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and after 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Paris United Methodist Church or Hospice of Michigan, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
