Gerald Clifton Mars' Obituary
Gerald Clifton Mars-Jerry Mars aka "JC", 72, of Big Rapids passed away Friday, May 1, 2015 peacefully at his residence. Jerry was born January 27, 1943 in a barn in Coopersville, Michigan. He was honestly the only one we knew of that was allowed to leave doors open wherever he went. Jerry joined the Marines as a teenager and was the ultimate Marine where the saying goes, Once A Marine, Always A Marine held true with him his whole life. Ooh Rah! He retired from General Motors on 36th street in Wyoming after many years of employment. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, tall tales, hot rods and his beloved PBR. He was quick to make friends with about everyone he met. His great sense of humor and certain coolness to him will be missed by many. Jerry is survived by his children, Dianne Mars, Dawn Mars and Anthony (Tony) Mars, four Grandchildren, Ryan House, Destinee Gulledge, Corey House and Shelby Chamberlain and one Great Granddaughter, Elowynn Welch. Also by his sister, Carol (Don) Sutton, brothers, James (Lorraine) Mars and Denny (Lori) Mars; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jerry is also survived by many that loved him and simply called him Uncle Jerry. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Dorothy (Dennis) Mars, sister Maxine Mars and his wife, Starlene Williams Mars. There will not be a funeral service for Jerry, rather the family will host a celebration of life gathering at a later date to be announced to loving family and friends. The family also asks that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in helping veterans in need. www.woundedwarriorproject.org SEMPER FIDELIS
