Harold E. Smith's Obituary
Big Rapids - Harold E. "Butch" Smith, 69, of Norwich Township, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at his residence. He was born May 7, 1948, in White Cloud, the son of Cal and Isabel (Slutz) Smith, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1966. Butch then joined the Michigan National Guard, and did duty in both the Watts riot in Los Angeles and the Detroit riot. For over 10 years, Butch worked at Hitachi-MagnaLock in Big Rapids. More recently, he has been an over-the-road truck driver. He was a champion barrel racer at the Sparta Rodeo, and also raced sled dogs in several states. Butch loved to hunt and fish. On January 11, 1980, he married Jennifer L. Albaugh, who survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Nathan Albaugh of Sand Lake, and Brandon (Ella Clack) of Howard City; 7 grandchildren, B.J., Allison, Sadie, Brianna, Alston, Jenna, and Kaytlynne; and 2 sisters, Ellen Davis and Beth Lake. Funeral services for Butch will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 30, 2017, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Burial will be in the Hungerford Cemetery in Norwich Township. Butch's family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
