Harry Dryden Haist's Obituary
Big Rapids-Harry Dryden Haist, age 78, of Big Rapids passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at his home. He was born in Bach, Michigan in Huron County on October 23, 1931 to Harry David Haist and Jean Allan Haist. Dryden was married to Joann Heasty on July 9, 1954 in Pigeon, Michigan. Surviving are daughter Jean Marie (Matt) Zimmerman of Big Rapids, twin grandchildren Stuart (fiance Heather Curran) Zimmerman of Alaska; and Jennie Zimmerman of Arizona, one brother-in-law; Alvin J. DeGrow, one niece; Jane DeGrow, two nephews; David and Michael DeGrow, and a special school classmate DeVere Sturm, a friend for 70 years. He was preceded in death by both parents and one sister, Judith Arlene DeGrow. Dryden graduated from Pigeon High School in 1949. He always had time to serve others. He was a City Councilman in Pigeon for 10 years, an Administrative Board member of Pigeon Methodist Church, and was President and Co-founder of Pigeon Historical Museum and Society. Dryden served two years in the United States Army. He later served as a Senior Vice Commander of the VFW in Pigeon, Co-Chair of Pigeon 75th Diamond Jubilee Celebration, Board member of Pigeon Chamber of Commerce, owner of Pigeon Dairy Bar for two years, then owned the Gamble Hardware and Toystore for 24 years in Pigeon. Dryden was a member of First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids where a memorial service will be held on August 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Dean Prentiss officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Drydens name to First United Methodist Church or Hospice of Michigan.
