Hazel Marie McConnell's Obituary
Hazel Marie McConnell, age 95, of Alma, went home to be with her Lord and Savior and reunited with her husband, Bruce, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Hazel was born, and raised, in Remus, on March 8, 1931, to Howard and Geneieve (Umbenhaur) Chapman. Hazel married Bruce McConnell on April 1, 1953. The two of them spent 72 cherished years together. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who enjoyed gospel music, gardening, tending to her flowers, reading, and crocheting. Hazel was a devoted Christian and an active member of the M-46 Tabernacle for many, many years.
Hazel will be missed by her children, Sheldon (Julie) McConnell of Elwell, Lynette (David) Schneider of Brethren, Brian (Julie) McConnell of Indiana, and Christopher (Joanne) McConnell of Alma, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Hazel’s sister, Dawn (Joe) LaVoy of Riverdale also survives her along with many extended family members.
Hazel was preceded in death by her dear husband, Bruce, her parents, children; Larie, Leta, and Stuart; sister Harriet Decker; and brothers Wayne, Victor, and Kenneth Chapman.
A funeral service to honor and remember Hazel will be held at M-46 Tabernacle Family Ministries on Thursday, May 28 starting at 11:00 AM with Pastor Bob Menzel officiating. Interment will take place in Weidman at Fairview Cemetery. The family will greet guests on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Edmore from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Contributions in Hazel’s memory can be made to M-46 Tabernacle Family Ministries.
Hazel will be deeply missed by her beloved family and all who called themselves her brothers and sisters in Christ.
