Helen M. Lusby's Obituary
Cedar Springs Helen M. Lusby, 91, of Cedar Springs, formerly of Big Rapids, went to be with her Lord; Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Metron of Cedar Springs. She was born June 3, 1917, in Muskegon, the daughter of Robert and Florence (Whallen) Babcock, moved to the Reed City area as a child, and lived there and the Big Rapids area most of her life. In 1935, Helen married Celo Lusby, and the couple lived on their farm near Hawkins for many years. They also owned and operated the Hawkins General Store until Celo passed away I`n 1957. Helen then worked as a nanny for several families throughout the area. She was formerly a member of the First Baptist Church of Big Rapids. Surviving are 3 sons, Ron (Shirley) of LeRoy, Terry (Cheryl) of Grand Rapids, and Rance of Tyler, TX; 1 daughter, Helena Lusby of Grandville; 6 grandsons, Ross, Greg, Brett, Jeff, and Christopher Lusby, and Rocky Vaughn; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 2 brothers, Robert (Jean) Babcock of White Cloud, Dan (Dawn) Babcock of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. Helen was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Lillian Babcock and Roberta Noder. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Rev. Ken Meneffee officiating. Burial will be in the Chase Township Cemetery. Helens family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7 p.m., and prior to services on Tuesday.
