Helen Irene Smith's Obituary
Big Rapids - Helen Irene Smith, 91, of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday April 14, 2018 at Altercare of Big Rapids.
She was born June 12, 1926, in Evart Township, the daughter of George Ray and Mary Jane (White) Mallett, and grew up in Big Rapids. As a young woman, she moved with her family to Spring Arbor, where she graduated high school. She later moved back to the Big Rapids area where she had lived since.
For a number of years, Helen worked for the Stanwood Hospital, and the Big Rapids Box Company. In her later years, she served as an in-home companion assisting elderly folks. Helen was also a lifelong member of the Big Rapids Free Methodist Church.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Willard, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters. Surviving are her daughter Glenna (Randy) Ripley of Howard City; 3 sons, Emerson (Mary) Smith of White Cloud, Terry (Kathy) Smith of Morley, and Dudley (Kay) Smith of Stanwood; 15 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Rev. Ted Johnson officiating. Burial will be Wednesday in the Spring Arbor Cemetery. Helen's family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until time of services.
