Henry Charles Johnston's Obituary
Big Rapids Henry C. Johnston, 65, of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008, at his residence. He was born February 26, 1943, in Jackson, and moved to Big Rapids in 1958. Following his graduation from Big Rapids High School, he served with the Michigan National Guard. Henry joined the Mecosta County Sheriffs Department in 1977, where he was a member of the dive team. He retired in 1999 as Correctional Sergeant. Henry had a passion for racing, having built and raced his own cars. He also loved the outdoors, especially enjoying his gardening and the surrounding wildlife. Henry is survived by his children, Paul of Big Rapids, Laura McCarthy of Alma, and their mother Sharon Navarre; Erin (Mike) Rader of Big Rapids, Amy Vedder of Big Rapids, and their mother Sherry Hickman; sister Sandy (Ron) Kast of Big Rapids; his beloved grandchildren, Brook, Kaleigh, Jordan, Sydney, Bailey, Guy, Morgan, Gavin, Gage, Emily, Brittany, Justin, and David; nieces Patty (Will) Buehler, and Jessica (Jim) Kast-Keat; and several great-nieces and nephews. Henry was preceded in death by his father and mother, Captain Edward C. and Lillian June Johnston, and his niece Linda Kast-Huddleston. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Gary Lough officiating. Memorial contributions for the Muskegon River Water Safety Program may be left at the funeral home, where Henrys family will greet friends after 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
