Hermann William Daum's Obituary
Big Rapids- Hermann William Daum, 69, of Stanwood, passed away Monday, July 4, 2011. He was born on December 24, 1941, in West Germany. He came to the United States at age seven. Prior to becoming a naturalized citizen, Hermann served in the U.S. Army as a legal alien. He had worked for the State of Michigan Tax Commission as a property appraiser and later the Department of Human Services in Child Protective Services. After retiring in 1997 from the State of Michigan, he went to work for Osceola County Probate Court as a juvenile probation officer, retiring in 2006. Hermann is survived by Cheryl, his wife of 42 years; three sons: Erich (Jodi) Daum of Big Rapids, Karl Daum of Cedar Springs, Hans (Kathy) Daum of Sand Lake; four grandchildren, Garrett, Kirk, Emma and Karsten Daum; two sisters, Mina Landstrom and Julia Bean, both of East Lansing; one brother, Joseph Daum of Crossville, TN; a halfbrother, Peter of Germany; plus several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolf and Karolina (Schott) Daum and one brother, Hans. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor John Bookshaw officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 4 p.m. and 6 8 p.m. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Stanwood. Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics-(Area Five) or the Walton Erickson Library in Stanwood.
