Howard Kenneth Edwards' Obituary
Howard Kenneth Edwards, 89, of Stanton, Michigan, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 10, 2025. Born to Kenneth Oliver Edwards and Edith Belle Teed Edwards, Howard graduated from the Stanton School System in 1955 and later married the love of his life, Donna Jean Hansen, on October 17, 1958. The two of them went on to build a life full of faith, family, and more than a few good stories.
Howard served the State of Michigan as a correctional officer for 30 years, retiring at the youthful age of 53—just in time to enjoy two full decades of annual Florida sunshine with Donna. When he wasn’t working, Howard could most often be found outdoors: hunting, fishing, splitting wood, camping, or simply taking in the quiet beauty of the countryside. A man who appreciated the simple pleasures of life, he never met a hot fudge sundae he didn’t like, and he held a firm belief that pie—hot or cold—was perfect either way.
He attended Entrican Bible Church with his devoted wife and was known for his dry wit and one-liners that always seemed to land at just the right moment. His sense of humor extended to his storytelling, including the legendary tale of how he “lost a finger to a deer”—a John Deere, that is—when the actual culprit was a corn picker on the family hobby farm.
Howard loved a good meal out, especially if family was along, and he cherished games of euchre with his family. Many memories were made around tables of “dirty marbles,” countless rounds of cards, and special trips to Kentucky Fried Chicken. He also had a fondness for watching cars cross the mighty Mackinac Bridge—something about that quiet, steady movement brought him joy.
Howard is survived by his loving wife, Donna Edwards; his daughter, Denise (Chuck) Cobb; his son, Monte (Michelle) Edwards and daughter in law Judi Edwards; and his brother, Bill Edwards. He is also survived by grandchildren, Danielle (Chris) Arganbright, Debbie Decker, Derrick (Chelsea) Bartlett, and Rachel (Logan) Sowles; Jenna Harrison, McKenna (Jordan Johnson) Harrison, Curtis (Rachel) Edwards, Courtney (Jemikal) Papendick, and many more beloved great-grands, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steve Edwards; two additional brothers; and his granddaughter, Allison Edwards.
A visitation will be held Sunday, December 14, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Edmore, Michigan. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 15, with family receiving friends one hour prior. Pastor John MacComber will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Church of God and Entrican Bible Church.
