Hubert L. "Bud" Motry's Obituary
Big Rapids Hubert L. Bud Motry, 94, of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, April 8, at Spectrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids. He was born March 22, 1914, in South Haven, the son of Alex and Annie (Kensley) Motry, and graduated from South Haven High School in 1930. During World War II, Bud served with the U.S. Air Force. Following his discharge, he returned to Michigan, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University. Bud was instrumental in establishing the Heavy Equipment Technology Program at Ferris State College, and taught there for 28 years until retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Buckley Old Engine Steam Club, the Big Rapids Antique Tractor Club, and the West Michigan Engine Club. He was also a life member of the American Legion. In 1944, he married Marion R. Bell, who survives. Also surviving are 1 brother, Ted (Evelyn) Motry of Crystal Beach, FL; a brother-in-law, Willard Knudson of Denver, CO; 2 sisters-in-law, Catherine Hartsfield of Reston, VA, Caroline Stanley of St. Joseph; nieces Lloydine Miller, Margaret Trousdale, and Janet Kulich; and nephews Wayne Stanley, Ron Zuhl, David and Philip Crago. Bud was preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Knudson, and 2 brothers, George and Carl. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Bobby Dale Whitlock officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
