Ilse Irma King's Obituary
DeWitt - Ilse Irma King, 93, of DeWitt, passed away Monday, January 18, 2021, at Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital.
She was born July 30, 1927, in Kassel, Germany, the daughter of Karl and Christina (Rooter) Oesterling. In 1958, Ilse married James M. King of DeWitt, whom she met while he was stationed at Wildflecken Army Base in Germany.
Following his discharge, they returned to Dewitt, and Ilse became a U.S. Citizen in 1959. For many years, she worked for the State of Michigan Treasury Department. Ilse was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir, and was active with Vacation Bible School and the LWML. She also was a long-time volunteer at the DeWitt Ox Roast. Ilse also enjoyed sports, especially watching the Detroit Lions and Tigers, and in her younger years she enjoyed skiing and volleyball.
Ilse was preceded in death by her husband Jim in 2007. She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Bill) Paulins of Charlotte; her son Robert King of Lansing; 2 grandchildren, Sarah and Evan; her sister Renata and brother Dieter (Steffi) of Germany; sister-in-law Jane King; brother-in-law John King; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother Herbert.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Hope Lutheran Church in DeWitt, with Rev. E. Anthony Sikora officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing. Her family will greet friends on Thursday at the church beginning at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in her name may be made for Hope Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Laymens's League.
