Imelda Mary Kring's Obituary
Lakeview-Imelda Mary Kring, age 98, of Lakeview passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Lakeview Terrace. She was born in Imlay City, Michigan on May 24, 1925, the daughter of Fred and Theresa (Martin) Weir. Imelda was raised in Emmett and graduated from Memphis High School with the Class of 1942. She continued her education at Michigan State Normal Teaching College (Eastern Michigan University) and later earned her master's degree in education from the University of Michigan. Imelda was employed by various school districts, including Ypsilanti, Memphis, New Haven and Utica, teaching business education for 33 years before her retirement in 1982. She married the love of her life, Donald Eugene Kring on August 5, 1950, in Emmett, Michigan. They spent over 65 years together before his passing in 2016 and were able to travel the world visiting 5 continents, all 50 states and every Canadian province. Imelda was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, the MEA and the NEA. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, doing daily crossword puzzles, playing cards and games. Imelda loved her family deeply and cherished spending time with them.Imelda is survived by her children, Donald E. (Cynthia) Kring Jr. of Durango, CO, Mary (David) England of Lakeview, Bill (Jeri) Kring of Traverse City; grandchildren, Bill (Shannon) England, Kate (Jason) Blubaugh, Don (Erin) Kring III, Molly (Josh Juedes) Kring, Emily (Christopher) Obrist, Tyler (Ashley) Kring, Laura Kring, Sara Kring; and 9 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Kring; parents, Fred and Theresa Weir; and a brother, Martin Weir.Imelda's family wishes to extend their most heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Lakeview Terrace and Spectrum Hospice. They greatly appreciate the care, compassion and friendship that was extended to her, especially over the last year.Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lakeview with Rev. James VanderLaan officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the church. A luncheon will follow the service at the Lakeview United Church of Christ, on the corner of Fifth Street and Lincoln Avenue in Lakeview.Those wishing to send a memorial in honor of Imelda are asked to send donations to the family, to be dispensed to the various Lakeview community organizations that provide senior services to the residents at the Lakeview Terrace.
