J.C. Jr. Burns' Obituary
J.C. Jr. Burns, age 89, of Mecosta passed away at his home on Thursday, September 11, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born to Jay Cee and Effie (Basney) Burns on September 26, 1935, in Millbrook Township where he was also raised. J.C. attended Lakeview High School. He married Dorothy Walcutt on April 17, 1954, in Sylvester. Throughout his career J.C. was employed as a mechanic and maintenance man for Grigg Farms, Gummer Peat, Mason Ford and the Howard City Plaza before his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Mecosta County Rod and Gun Club and the Sylvester Community Church. J.C. enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling with local potato farmers and most importantly spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a hard-working man and a devoted husband, father and grandfather.J.C. is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Dorothy (Walcutt) Burns of Mecosta; 6 children, Patti Jo (Les) Noakes of Howard City, Pam Courser of Newaygo, Amy (Rick) Russell of Newaygo, Scott (Lynn) Burns of Morley, Mark (Lynn) Burns of Sanford, Ryan (Heidi) Burns of Kalamazoo; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Dale Burns of Morley, Richard (Judith) Burns of Blanchard, Arlene Roelofson of California, Elaine (Ed) Sheldon of Indiana; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay Cee and Effie; sister, Carolyn Burns; and brother, Frank Burns.A celebration of J.C.'s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Sylvester Community Church in Mecosta with Pastor Richard Taylor officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Private interment at Decker Cemetery in Blanchard has taken place.Contributions in J.C.'s memory can be made to the Sylvester Community Church or the Mecosta County Rod and Gun Club.
